The University's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Red and Yale Blue as the school colors to symbolize SMU's high standards.
Now, almost 100 years later, those colors have evolved into the red and blue you see below. A tan or khaki color is a secondary hue used in many cases as an additional color. Although not an official school color, designers recommend it when a neutral tone is needed.
Because colors may differ according to printing method, paper type, and other variables, campus marketing staff strive to achieve a red and blue as close as possible to these Pantone colors.
