Psi Chi

Psi Chi is the national honorary society in psychology . Membership is open to undergraduate psychology majors and minors who have completed three semesters of college, including nine hours of psychology, and all graduate students in Psychology. To qualify, you must have a 3.2 GPA overall and a 3.5 GPA in psychology. There is a one-time initiation fee of $50. Applications and information can be obtained from the Psi Chi bulletin board on the first floor of Hyer Hall or from the SMU Psi Chi website.

Tutoring

Tutoring is available through the Learning Enhancement Center (LEC) for certain psychology classes. You can contact the LEC to find out about being a tutor, or finding one to help you.

Independent study

Many faculty members in the Psychology Department are engaged in an active program of research. All undergraduates are encouraged to become a voluntary research assistant to a faculty member. You will gain hands-on experience, and your contact with a faculty member will enable him/her to write a more comprehensive recommendation for you when you apply for a job or graduate/professional You can get course credit for this work, but it will not count towards the 33 hours needed for the Psychology Major.  Please go to http://www.smu.edu/psychology/faculty/faculty.html to find out about the various projects being conducted by our faculty, and contact them directly to see if they can use your help.

Undergraduate research awards

The Department of Psychology gives out several awards each year for the most outstanding undergraduate students. These awards are given in the
