Visitor Parking Regulations

Vehicles on Campus

SMU provides several options for our visitors including covered parking garages.  These include Moody garage, Airline garage, Meadows garage, and the new upcoming Binkley garage.  Motor vehicles parked in a metered/pay space must pay the meter space accordingly.  Motor vehicles parked at any time on University property or streets by students, faculty, or staff must display a current permit, which is obtained from the Office of Parking and ID Card Services.  Permits must not be transferred to another person or vehicle.  Permits for motorcycles will be displayed on any conspicuous place.

Visitor Parking:

Meadows Garage, Moody Garage, University Lot and Metered spaces

Visitors to SMU should be given parking guidance by the person or organization inviting them to campus. There is NO free parking on campus for any.  Visitors and guests of the University may park ONLY in "pay meter" spaces, the University Lot located behind the Airline Garage, and the Moody Garage unless other arrangements have been made to permit vehicles.  The University Lot and Moody Garage offer "Park and Pay" stations.  Visitor Parking Map (PDF)

  1. Meadows Parking Garage: Visitors parking in Meadows Museum garage must enter from the south side of the garage through the right side entrance.  Meadows has two side by side entrances: the left entrance is for SMU permitted vehicles and the right entrance is for museum patrons and visitors.  Upon entrance, please take ticket and place on dashboard.  Payment is made upon exit at $2.00 dollars for every half hour the vehicle is parked, not to exceed $20.00 dollars.  The pay station accepts coins, bills ($1.00 and $5.00 bills only) as well as Mastercard and Visa.
  2. Moody Parking Garage: Visitors parking in the Moody Garage will be required to pay a flat-rate fee of $5.00 to utilize the garage parking.  The one-time $5.00 fee is good for the entire day. The pay station is located at the SMU Blvd Exit and will accept coins, bills ($1.00 and $5.00 only), as well as Mastercard and Visa.  Parking coupons may also be used at the Moody Garage station only.  These coupons will be distributed to guests by selected hosts who receive them from their respective Dean or Vice President's office.  Visitors must place the receipt or coupon on the dashboard to show proof of payment.
  3. University Lot: Visitors parking in the University Lot must pay by the hour ($1.00 per hour) up to a maximum of $5.00 per day.  A conveniently placed pay station in the center of the lot is offered to our visitors.  Visitors must place the receipt face up on the dashboard to show proof of payment.
  4. Metered Parking:  Metered spaces can be found through out the University. Each parking meter head typically is for four (4) parking spaces marked A,B,C and D and will allow a maximum three (3) hour parking at .25 cents for every fifteen (15) minutes.  If parking requires more than 3 hours, coins must be inserted to add time.  To add time to a space correctly, first press the desired space (i.e. A,B,C,D), then insert coins.  Metered parking is enforced Monday through Thursday from 7am - 7pm and Friday 7am - 5pm.  Meters are not enforced on weekends.
  5. While on campus, visitors are subject to the same rules and regulations as the campus community.
  6. Visitors who violate traffic laws and ordinances may be cited in University Park City Traffic Court.
  7. Faculty, staff, or students are NOT considered visitors  and may not park in a visitor's parking space anywhere on campus!
  8. SMU employees and students are responsible for the actions of their guests on campus and should advise them as to the areas in which they are allowed to park.
  9. SMU is not responsible for any damage that may occur to vehicles parked on campus or to vehicles entering or leaving SMU parking lots.

  12. Visiting Parents:  Please be advised that there is NO free parking on campus for anyone.  The University encourages visitors to obtain temporary parking permits.  Permits may be purchased at the Park N Pony office, located in the Hughes-Trig building at $2 per day.  This will allow parking in the AUP (All University Parking) areas.  "Short Term" parking for loading or unloading, etc., without a proper permit is not permitted and is subject to citation, regardless.
