Video of SMU's Inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame
Induction Ceremony Now Available
DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU Athletic Department, in
conjunction with the SMU Lettermen's Association, inducted the inaugural
class of the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame during ceremonies on May 2. Video of that
event is now available online. Because of length, it has been divided into
Part 1

The 2008 inductees were Forrest Gregg, Lamar Hunt, Martina Moravcova and Payne Stewart. Don Meredith served as Honorary Chair.
“The SMU Athletics Hall of Fame celebrates the many extraordinary individuals in all sports who have played a role in developing the tradition and prestige of SMU Athletics and provides future generations with a greater appreciation for the rich heritage of the Mustangs.
In 2005, the SMU Lettermen’s Association began taking steps to renew the SMU/Dr Pepper Hall of Fame, which was established in 1978 to honor both outstanding athletes and administrators who played an important part in founding the great tradition of Mustang football. Building on this strong history, the Lettermen’s Association broadened today’s SMU Athletics Hall of Fame to include all sports, past and present, sponsored by the University. The 35 members of the original SMU/Dr Pepper Hall of Fame also were recognized at the May 2 event.”

Forrest Gregg ('56) — former Mustang football player, coach and athletic
director; member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Lamar Hunt ('56) — former SMU football player and founder of the Kansas
City Chiefs; member of the Pro Football, Texas Sports, National Soccer and
International Tennis Halls of Fame
- Martina Moravcova ('98) — 14-time NCAA swimming champion and Olympic
medalist
- Payne Stewart ('79) — 1989 PGA Champion, two-time U.S. Open Champion and member of five U.S. Ryder Cup teams
