Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports
Receives International Masonry Award
DALLAS (SMU) – SMU’s
Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports was
awarded the Honor Award in the Education College/University
category from the
Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA).
The 2006 MCAA International Excellence in Masonry Awards was
recently held in Las Vegas. The purpose of the awards is to
recognize mason contractors, architects and building owners for
outstanding accomplishments in masonry design and construction.
The
Dedman Center was called, “an exquisite example of Greek revival
architecture with fine masonry detailing and superb
craftsmanship,” according to judges’ comments released by the MCAA.
The judges continued, “[It is] a powerful solution that shows off
brick and cast stone with a high level of restraint – a building
to be celebrated.”
The
first phase of the Dedman Center opened in fall 2005. The second
phase will open this summer.
Dee Brown Inc. of Garland was the
masonry contractor and
Hahnfeld Hoffer Stanford of Fort Worth was
the architect.
The
MCAA is a national trade association representing masonry
contractors and suppliers in national legislative and political
affairs, codes and standards composition, workforce development,
education, market promotion and general industry advocacy.
