Director of the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education
Directing SMU’s national program to foster student interest in engineering careers, Delores Etter is an electrical engineer in the Lyle School of Engineering with a Department of Defense administrative background. Her expertise ranges from futuristic biometric iris and facial recognition programs to the American technology gap, the importance of math and science in education, and women in underrepresented professions.
She is the founding director of the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education, a Caruth Professor of Engineering Education, a distinguished fellow in the Darwin Deason Institute for Cyber Security and a senior fellow in the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies. Her research interests include digital signal processing and biometric signal processing. She has also written a number of textbooks on computer languages and software engineering.
