academic advising

students with adviserSMU’s Dedman College Advising Center helps take the guesswork out of academic planning. In fact, SMU is a two-time winner of the prestigious Outstanding Advising Program Award from the National Recognition Program for Academic Advising.

Each incoming first-year student has their own Dedman College Academic Adviser, a professional who will help the student explore academic interests, clarify academic expectations, select courses, and develop a four-year academic plan. With 133 majors and minors and more than 1,200 courses offered at SMU each semester, students have many choices, and the advising staff will help each student find course selections that best fit her/him.
