Declaring a Major: Ready to declare your Meadows major? Let’s make sure you’re on the right track. Before you are eligible to declare any major at Meadows, you must complete 24 hours of coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. In addition to those requirements, the various Meadows areas have their own specific requirements for admission to their programs of study. To see those requirements, click on the appropriate division below.

If you think you’ve met the requirements for both Meadows and your academic area, you’ll need to meet with your pre-major adviser in Clements Hall and declare your major with them. For most intended Meadows students, this happens at the end of their first year at SMU.

Once this process has been completed, your records will be forwarded to us in the Meadows Undergraduate Academic Services office. We will maintain your records and provide information regarding Meadows policies, University General Education requirements, your Degree Progress Report and any petitions you might make. We can also help you change your major, add another one or declare a minor. Any minors or second majors must be declared through our office.
