David Bates (B.A., ’75), a nationally recognized painter and sculptor, received the Distinguished Alumni Award from SMU in November. The award is the highest and most prestigious award the University can bestow upon its alumni. The award is presented to an alumnus or alumna who has demonstrated a record of distinguished service or achievement to a particular discipline, organization or cause that has brought distinction to the University.
