Travis Waldschmidt (BFA ’07 - Dance) lands role in Disney’s High School Musical

Travis Waldschmidt (BFA ’07 - Dance) thrilled audiences at SMU performing works by William Forsythe, Pilobolus, Martha Graham and George Balanchine, among others. Now, he is wowing audiences all over the country with not only his fancy footwork, but his acting and singing talents as well, as the newest addition to the national tour of High School Musical.

Based on the Disney Channel original hit movie of the same name, High School Musical follows a group of teens through the everyday dramas of crushes, basketball practice, science lab and school play auditions. From its initial premiere on the Disney channel, the musical sensation has spread to DVD players, lunch boxes and t-shirts all over the nation, and now is a stage show touring in the U.S., England and Australia.

Waldschmidt is a new member of the ensemble and understudy for the leading role of Ryan Evans, one of the school’s theatrical talents and the little brother of drama diva Sharpay Evans. The brother and sister’s places in the spotlight are challenged by super-smart transfer student Gabriella and her boyfriend, Troy, the basketball team captain, who audition for the school’s musical production of Romeo and Juliet.

High School Musical will visit Dallas from July 2-13, 2008. Check out the musical’s website at http://disney.go.com/theatre/highschoolmusical/ to learn more.
