Giving

Giving OpportunitiesGiving Opportunities: There are many ways you can support the Meadows School of the Arts and its mission. In addition to traditional cash gifts made for annual operating or endowment purposes, you might consider the following.

Gifts of Securities
Utilizing securities that have appreciated in value to fund charitable gifts is one of the most effective means of benefiting charity while obtaining considerable income tax advantages. If an individual sells a stock or bond that has increased in value, he will be subject to a tax on that capital gain. Because a public charity is not subject to income taxation, it can sell either of those securities without being subject to the capital gains tax.

Planned Gifts
SMU's Office of Planned and Major Gifts can help you find the best way to merge your estate planning needs with your philanthropic ambitions. The officers in planned giving can help you to set up trusts or annuities, or help you with a gift of a life insurance policy or with the tax advantages of a gift of securities.
