POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Director, Division of Music
The Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University invites nominations and applications for an opportunity to lead its dynamic and storied Division of Music. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and seek an innovative leader who will be expected to be a significant partner in connecting the Division to an increasingly diverse and culturally rich arts community in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The Division has long had a close and creative relationship with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (http://www.dallassymphony.com), from which some of its faculty are drawn. The Division also collaborates with the Dallas Opera (http://www.dallasopera.org), a future resident of the soon-to-be completed Dallas Center for the Performing Arts (http://www.dallasperformingarts.org), an exciting addition to the arts in Dallas.
Minimum qualifications: A musician of substantial accomplishment in any specialization, a terminal degree in Music, teaching and scholarship/creative activity sufficient to qualify for the rank of full professor, administrative experience at the college level, a commitment to diversity, creative energy, and evidence of innovation and forward-thinking leadership.
Preferred qualifications: Doctoral degree in Music or the equivalent in professional activities, demonstrated success in leading a diverse community of scholars and artists and in recruiting a global population of students and faculty, familiarity with new curricular directions, experience with enhancing an institution's national reputation, understanding of the uses of new technologies, a broad range of interests, and a commitment to outreach and fundraising.

To ensure full consideration for the position, the application must be postmarked by October 15, 2007, but the committee will continue to accept applications until the position is filled. The committee will notify applicants of its employment decision at the completion of the search. Position begins August 2008.
