POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Assistant Professor of Music Education/Vocal, tenure track

The Division of Music in the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University invites applications for an opportunity to be involved in shaping a dynamic and evolving program in music education.  Creative energy, intellectual strength, and broad-ranging teaching interests are essential, as is a demonstrated enthusiasm for guiding students.  At SMU, music education is a select program where pedagogy and artistic performance are valued and where students receive instruction that accommodates individual needs.  We welcome candidates from all backgrounds.  The candidate selected will be expected to be a significant partner in connecting the division to an increasingly diverse and globally-connected community at the university and in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.

Minimum qualifications:  Completed doctorate by summer 2008; exemplary public/private school general and choral music teaching/conducting experience; evidence of ongoing creative/scholarly activities; expertise to teach elementary and secondary vocal music education courses, supervise student teachers, and assist in recruiting by maintaining a high level of visibility with area public/private schools.

Preferred qualifications:  Ability to teach graduate seminars and supervise graduate research; published creative scholarship, presentations, and/or research in referred journals and/or national venues; ability to teach world music or special needs a plus; experience mentoring culturally diverse students.  Position begins August 2008.
