MayTerm Tuition and Payment Due Date

For MayTerm 2017, regular undergraduate students will pay a reduced tuition rate of only $1,327 per credit hour, the same rate offered in JanTerm 2017. The total cost for one 3-hour MayTerm course is $3,981 and no other fees will be assessed with the exception of travel costs and special fees for the course being offered in New York City (ADV 5301).

For other SMU students (certain graduate students, those enrolled in the evening bachelor’s degree program, etc.), MayTerm tuition will typically be calculated at the current rate being charged by the specific program in which they are enrolled.

Tuition due dates are set by the Bursar's Office, and a one-time late fee is assessed for late payments. Delinquent payment/late fees will result in account and enrollment holds.

MayTerm Cancellation/Withdrawal Process

Should your plans change and you need to drop your MayTerm course, you cannot do so through my.SMU. Students wanting to drop before the start of MayTerm can do so by filling out a Course Cancellation form. Students attempting to drop after start of classes should contact the MayTerm Program Office at  mayterm@smu.edu. Please be aware of all MayTerm deadlines including refund policies (see below).

SMU Merit Scholarships/Financial Aid for MayTerm

Students considering enrollment in a MayTerm course should contact their Financial Aid Advisor. Those receiving SMU Merit Scholarships (such as the President's Scholars, Provost, Rotunda scholarships, etc.) or need-based financial aid (SMU Opportunity Grant) may be eligible to receive these rewards on a pro-rated basis for MayTerm.

Other Federal and State funds are not available for MayTerm unless you are also attending additional classes over the summer in Dallas or Taos. In order to receive financial aid outside of MayTerm, a student must be enrolled in at least SIX (6) hours over the course of the entire summer. Please contact your Financial Aid Advisor for more information.

Please Note: the Financial Aid Office no longer requires students to fill out a summer financial aid/scholarship application form. Eligible students will receive pro-rated financial awards after enrolling in a MayTerm course through my.SMU. Please be sure to enroll by Friday, April 28, to allow time for processing prior to the MayTerm payment due date.

MayTerm Scholars Partial Tuition Assistance Award

A limited number of partial tuition assistance scholarships are available to full-time SMU undergraduate students attending an SMU MayTerm course. Assistance is limited and is awarded at the discretion of the MayTerm Scholarship Committee, based in part on financial need, academic merit, and strength of the applicant's essay.

The scholarship can only be applied towards the cost of tuition. The MayTerm Scholars Award can be combined with other MayTerm financial aid, not to exceed the cost of tuition. Those receiving staff/dependent benefits through SMU are not eligible for the MayTerm Scholars award.

Interested students must apply for the MayTerm Scholars Award by Thursday, April 27 at 4:00pm.  Consult the Scholarship Award section for more information.

 

MayTerm Refund Policies

Students wanting to drop before the start of MayTerm can do so by filling out a form through the Course Cancellation page. Students attempting to drop after start of classes should contact the MayTerm Program Office at mayterm@smu.edu for help completing a withdrawal/cancellation form. Due to the compressed timeframe of MayTerm, NO refunds will be issued after Thursday, May 18, 2017.

Received by Wednesday, May 17, no later than 4:00 p.m. 100% refund
Received on Thursday, May 18, no later than 4:00 p.m. - the 1st day of class 50% refund

MayTerm Drop / Withdrawal Deadlines

Not attending class does not drop you from the course. You will need to provide written notification of your drop/withdrawal to mayterm@smu.edu (not your advisor or professor) by the dates indicated below.

Received on or before Friday, May 19 course will not appear on your transcript
Received between Saturday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 30
grade of “W” will appear on your transcript
Received after Tuesday, May 30
grade of “F” will appear on your transcript
