faculty positions

The focus of the Department of Mathematics at SMU is computational and applied mathematics. The department has nineteen faculty members and a postdoctoral accociate. Current areas of strength include fluid dynamics, nonlinear optics, perturbation methods, numerical analysis of ordinary and partial differential equations, math software and numerical linear algebra. The university also houses an engineering school. Dallas is home to a premier medical research institution, U.T. Southwestern.

The department is entering a period of unprecedented hiring. We are hiring three faculty (two senior) next year. Three more positions are likely to be available in the subsequent year including a chaired professorship with at least one position in the following year.


Applications are invited for one senior level (tenured) position, to begin in the fall semester of 2008. Applicants must have a Ph.D., provide evidence of outstanding research, and have a strong commitment to teaching at all levels. Applicants in all areas of computational mathematics are encouraged.
