Bridwell Library

Business Information Center
The Business Information Center (BIC) is located in room 150 of the Maguire Building, and is part of the Cox School of Business. The mission of the BIC is to provide the SMU community with business information regardless of format, support the integration of information and technology into the curriculum, and act as a center for research and development for state-of-the-art information technology applications in the business education field. In support of this mission the BIC offers the SMU community both quiet and group study areas, individual and group computer areas consisting of 70 computer workstations, a podcasting studio, a group presentation practice room, a periodicals area with lounge seating, facility-wide wireless access, over 150 electronic resources, and a variety of print resources including the Hillcrest Foundation International Resource Library, the Edwin L. Cox Business Leadership Center Resource Collection, the Cary M. Maguire Energy Institute Resource Collection and the Career Management Center Library. Librarians are available all hours that the BIC is open, offering reference assistance both in-person and virtually via e-mail and telephone. Librarians provide course specific, in-class instruction at the request of instructors and lead workshops on performing business research.

DeGolyer Library
DeGolyer Library houses one of the strongest collections in the United States on the Trans-Mississippi West, Texas, the Spanish borderlands, transportation with an emphasis on railroads, and business history.  University Archives, established in 1967 to collect and preserve materials relating to the history of SMU, is a part of DeGolyer Library.  Archival holdings consist of bulletins, yearbooks, programs, reports, personal correspondence, photographs, and other material on the University.

Fondren Library
The largest collection of resources on campus, Fondren Library houses materials in the humanities, social sciences and business, as well as government information resources.  Its collections include approximately 570,000 books, 4,000 journal titles (including 2,300 current journals and newspapers), 68,000 volumes of bound periodicals, 225,000 U.S. and Texas government documents, and 180,000 microforms.

Science/Engineering Library
The Science and Engineering Library includes collections in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, mathematics, statistics, computer science, and civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering.  The library has particularly strong collections in the earth sciences, electronics, general science and technology.  The Edwin J. Foscue Map Library  in the Science and Engineering Library houses one of the largest map collections in the Southwest.

Fort Burgwin Library
The Fort Burgwin Library, located on the SMU-in-Taos campus in New Mexico, contains approximately 4500 books and small collections of journals and maps. The collection, closely tailored to the Taos curriculum, focuses on the history, literature, cultures, and environment of New Mexico and neighboring states in the Southwest.  The library is open from May to August each year while classes are being held at Fort Burgwin.

Hamon Arts Library
Hamon Arts Library supports the undergraduate and graduate programs of the Meadows School of the Arts in the disciplines of art, arts administration, cinema, dance, music, and theater.  The library houses approximately 90,000 books and scores, 25,000 audio and video recordings, and 100,000 pieces of special collections materials in the arts.

Institute for the Study of Earth and Man (ISEM) Reading Room
The Institute for the Study of Earth and Man Reading Room houses a collection of approximately 8,000 volumes of books and bound journals, 50 current journals, and reserve readings in anthropology and geology.  Primary users of the collection include undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty researchers of the Institute for the Study of Earth and Man.

The SMU-in-Legacy Library Resource Room, located in Plano, supports the academic degree programs offered at SMU-in-Legacy.  Several computer workstations offer access to the Internet and the same electronic reference databases found in SMU campus libraries.  Each PC is equipped with Microsoft Office applications.
