Melissa Dowling

Golden Age of Egypt
Melissa Barden
Dowling teaches ancient Egyptian, Greek
and Roman history in the Clements department of
history and directs the program in Classical
Studies. She was named Altshuler Distinguished
Teaching Professor. Her recent book, Clemency
and Cruelty in the Roman World, won the
Godbey prize in the spring of 2007. Currently
Dowling is writing a scholarly book on the Roman
cult of Isis, exploring how Egyptian religion is
understood in the Roman empire.
