Learning Therapy Graduate Certificate
SMU's Learning Therapy program is a graduate certification program for individuals interested in working with children or adults who have dyslexia or related language learning disorders. Curriculum includes coursework and instruction in the structures of written English, multi-sensory teaching methods, and sequential procedures for teaching written-language skills and learning strategies.
With two years of in-depth graduate study, extensive practicum teaching hours, seminars, and clinical teaching hours, students develop skills that prepare them to work with people challenged by a variety of obstacles. In addition to technical knowledge, the therapist-students receive coaching on communication skills, creating opportunities to inspire and reinforcing relationships with clients and others.
The Learning Therapist program incorporates flexible schedules to accommodate working professionals, and is open to persons holding a Bachelor's or higher professional degree from an accredited university or college.

Dyslexia Teaching Level Certificate Program
SMU’s Learning Therapy Program offers a Dyslexia Teaching Level Graduate Certificate that is designed to meet the needs of dyslexia teachers who work with small remedial classes. The Program is offered every semester (summer, spring and fall) at SMU’s campus in Plano, Texas. Arrangements may also be made to deliver the program on-site in schools or educational service centers.
Participants receive thorough instruction in guided discovery, multi sensory teaching techniques, lesson planning, and documentation of student progress. The curriculum is a multi sensory, sequential, integrated language arts program that includes alphabet and dictionary skills training, reading decoding and comprehension, spelling, cursive handwriting, and written composition

The Diagnostic Center for Dyslexia & Related Disorders
Testing Evaluation Referral
The Diagnostic Center was established in response to a community need for services that evaluate individuals for learning disorders related to reading acquisition and comprehension. Dyslexia is involved in most disorders of this type, which include developmental spelling disability, developmental auditory imperception, dysgraphia, and dysphasia. The Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive evaluative services and appropriate medical, psychological, and educational referrals and recommendations to children, adolescents, and adults who are at risk for dyslexia.
