The clinic represents low-income taxpayers needing to resolve tax problems with the Audit, Appeals and Collection divisions of the I.R.S. and before the U.S. Tax Court. |

Law students who participate in the SMU Dedman School of Law Legal
Clinics learn that the practice of law demands tremendous dedication
to both the law and the pursuit of their client's best interests.
Working in the clinic, students learn that every client has
different needs, and every one of these needs require the ability to
problem solve both professionally and creatively. As students
discover how much they can accomplish for an individual client, they
build both self-confidence and a deeper respect for the tremendous
responsibility of all lawyers, no matter who the client, or the
case.

"It's a tremendous service to the community. A lot of people think everybody who goes to SMU majors in tax and goes off to a big corporation to make a lot of money. That's just not the case. And I think the clinics have done one of the best jobs of getting that perception changed."
