What is the Password Tool?
The Password Tool is a service provided by SMU for all faculty, staff and students, that allows you to personally manage your SMU account password. In order to use it, you must first "Enroll" in the Password Tool by setting up 3 security questions. You will need your current password to complete this step.I don't know my password...

- You can manage your password from any computer with internet access
- You can change your password, even if it has expired
- You can unlock your account if you accidentally used the wrong password too many times
How do I use Password Tool?
- Enroll - Will prompt to set up 3 security questions and answers. Keep in mind that if you get too creative, you might not remember your answers six months from now. So keep it simple!
- Unlock - Will allow you to " unlock " your SMU account. You will be prompted to answer your security questions, but not to create a new password. Note: Your account might become locked for many reasons, though it is usually because the wrong password was entered too many times. This is not associated with any holds you may have on your academic account as a student.
- Reset - You will be prompted for your SMU ID# and to answer your security questions. Then you will create a NEW password
- Change - Will prompt you for your SMU ID#, your current password and then you can create a new one.
Strong Password Policy
Your password must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a minimum of 8 characters in length
- May not contain more than 3 number found in your SMU ID number in the order in which they appear
- May not be a password that you have used before
- Must contain 3 of the following 4 character sets
- Upper Case Letters
- Lower Case Letters
- Numbers
- Special Characters
