Webmaster's note: This report was updated May 10 with images that had been damaged during their original transmission from Costa Rica. We arrived safely to Tortuguero around 1 this afternoon. Our journey today began crossing the continental divide from the Pacific to the Caribbean side. As we descended into the cloud forest, we saw the Sucio River (yellow from volcanic sulfur and iron). Along the slopes of the valley were giant (1 m across) plants of the Bumeria, often called "poor man's umbrella".
Brown tree frog found in banana plantation. Heading further east into the tropical lowlands, we encountered boat-billed herons and both three-toed and two-toed sloths. We then came upon a brown tree frog as we toured a banana plantation. Once our bus dropped us off at lands end, we proceeded by boat to our destination, the CCC Biological Research Station.
Team
