MA in Applied Human Rights at University of York

The Centre for Applied Human Rights at the University of York is proud to unveil its new MA in Applied Human Rights, commencing in October 2008.

This innovative MA is designed for practioners and would-be- practioners in human rights, development, humanitarian protection and related fields, who wish to engage with the opportunities and challenges of human rights-related work.

The MA is unique in four main ways:
It is tailored to enable students to navigate a paradox - human rights is currently subject to critique on familiar territory, such as civil liberties in the post 9/11 era, and is expanding rapidly into new areas.

Its focus is applied - for example, human rights defenders from around the world will be hosted by the Centre and thoroughly integrated into the MA learning experience.

The MA will be interdisciplinary in both its core and optional modules.

An international field visit to South Africa will take place in the first term.
