Can current employee’s transfer to another department on campus?
Yes, SMU employees that are in good standing are eligible to transfer after six months of continuous employment in their current job. Employees on progressive disciple cannot participate.
How do I find jobs on campus?
Visit Access.SMU daily for current openings at SMU. Apply using Self Service and click on Recruiting Activities. No other paperwork is needed.
Is the application and interview process confidential?
Yes, employees are not required to discuss the submission of an application or an invitation to interview with their supervisors. Search committee members cannot discuss internal applications with others outside the committee.
When should I tell my supervisor that I have applied for a position?
Approval from your supervisor is not required to apply for any position. However, you must tell your supervisor when you are notified as a top candidate for the position.
If I receive an offer, how much notice should I give to my department?
A minimum of two weeks for hourly positions and four weeks for salaried positions. Some departments are more flexible depending on the nature of the job, and notice may be negotiated between the current and future supervisors.
Do I have to undergo a 90 day probationary period?
Yes, you will undergo a 90 day probationary period starting the first day of employment on the new job. If your 90 day probationary period is not successfully completed, termination could occur.
Are my benefits affected?
No, all benefits accrued including vacation and paid medical leave days will carry over with you.
