Regular 403(b) Retirement Plan
If you are a full time employee and at least 26 years of age, you are eligible to participate in this plan. You are required to participate once you reach age 36 and have one year of service at the university.
You will contribute 5% of your base salary on a pre-tax basis through payroll deductions. SMU will contribute 8% of your base salary through age 40. At age 41, the SMU contribution will increase to 10% of your base salary.

To set up an account with any of the investment fund managers, you must complete an application.

Other Eligibility Requirements
There are additional eligibility requirements:
- Part-time employees are eligible after one year of employment.
- You must begin participating in the Regular Retirement Plan once you reach age 36 and have one year of service.
- You are not eligible to participate in the Retirement Plan if you are:
- Temporary employee
- Postdoctoral fellow
- Student
- Adjunct professor who is not Benefits eligible
