Benefits Eligibility
If you enroll within your 31 day time frame, your coverage will take effect on the day your enrollment forms are received in the Department of Human Resources.

Eligible Dependents
Eligible dependents include:
- Your legal spouse or qualified domestic partner.
- BCBSTX PPO: unmarried children under age 19 (under age 25 if full-time student; proof that a dependent is a full-time student is
required each school term). - Aetna HMO: unmarried eligible children under age 25 (regardless of student status).
- Physically or mentally disabled children of any age who are incapable of self-support. Proof of disability may be requested and disability has
to have occurred prior to age 19 (or age 25 if a full-time student).
Eligible children are defined as your natural children, stepchildren, legally adopted children, children of a qualified domestic partner, and children under your legal guardianship. If your child is no longer eligible, you must notify SMU by completing a Benefits Change form and returning it to the Department of Human Resources.
