Manager Options - Section 6 Included in this section: Adding to the Expectations | Using "The Job" Form | Other Review Process Customization Needs The SMU Performance Review Tool was designed with flexibility to ensure maximum benefit for the users. Remember, the primary purpose of the tool is to facilitate a productive, relationship-building conversation between you and your supervisor. With this in mind, your manager may wish to choose among the following options in utilizing the tool. I. Adding to the Expectations While the existing eight expectations have been chosen and worded to be as broad as possible, they were never intended to be all-inclusive .Your manager may add an expectation (or competency) that is crucial to your success. For example, some roles require a great
deal of project management. In this case it would be acceptable
for a manger to add this as an expectation for those employees. Your supervisor may choose to use the Job form in addition to the Expectations. This form calls for your supervisor to review your major job responsibilities and give you feedback on your performance of those responsibilities over the last year. Your supervisor may ask you to help identify
those major responsibilities and/or perform a self-review on those responsibilities.
You can think of the Job as providing you feedback on what you accomplished
while the Expectations provides feedback on how you performed those responsibilities. Some departments have special needs with regard to the performance review process. Your supervisor may contact the Department of Human Resources for assistance with further customization of the tools.
