Configuring a SmartPhone for SMU Email
The configuration for each phone is slightly different based on the various models, carriers and email clients. The following page provides the basic information that is needed for the more popular devices. Please remember to secure your phone with a password once you have configured the email account. Otherwise, an unauthorized person may gain access to your email account and any messages or attachments contained within.
Important Note for Faculty and Staff: ITS supports only Windows Mobile and Palm OS Devices for enterprise email use. Blackberry and Apple iPhones are not able to receive "over the air" calendar, contact and task information. This information is only available when tethering the device to your computer. We DO NOT recommend these devices for campus enterprise email use.
Blackjack with Cingular
Exchange (To Download Calendar, Contacts, E-Mail, and Tasks from Webmail)
Start > Active Sync
Within Active Sync, select Menu > Add Server Source
Enter the Service Address: webmail.smu.edu
Click Next.
For the following fields enter:
Username: 22593146
Password: SMUPassword
Domain: SMU
Click Next > Finish
To access the email, click on Home > Messages > Outlook Email

Password: SMU Webmail Password
Incoming server address: pop.smu.edu

SSL Required on both incoming/outgoing if prompted.

After logging in, in the email setup section, insert the information as follows:

00000000@smu.edu)
Password: Your SMU Webmail Password
*The settings will then automatically be detected. After setting up the email,
it will take up to 20 minutes for the email on webmail to download to your
phone.
*You can also edit the account online after creating it to display your Full
Name and your reply to address.
