How to determine the version number of your browser

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click Help
3. Select About Internet Explorer
4. The first line will indicate the version number.  The 4th line will indicate which service pack has been installed.  ITS recommends using Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher. 

How to configure Internet Explorer 5.5-6.0 sp2 for Access.SMU

1. Exit Internet Explorer
2. Click Start on your windows toolbar
3. Click Settings
4. Click Control Panel
5. Click Internet Options
6. On the General tab, locate the "temporary internet files" section. 
7. Click Delete Cookies
8. Click OK
9. Click Delete Files
10. Check Delete all Offline content
11. Click OK
12. Click the Security tab
13. Click the "Trusted Sites" icon
14. Click the "Sites" button
15. Uncheck the box "Require server verifications (https:) for all sites in this zone"
16. Type "access.smu.edu" in the "add this web site to the zone" field
17. Click Add
18. Type "www.smu.edu" in the "add this web site to the zone" field
19. Click Add
20. Click OK
21. Click the Privacy tab
22. Click Advanced
23. Confirm that the word "accept" is selected under First-party cookies and Third-party cookies. 
24. If "accept" is not selected:
    a. click Override automatic cookie handling
    b.  Click Accept under first-party cookies
    c.  Click Accept under third party cookies
    d. Check "Always allow session cookies"
25. Click OK
26. Uncheck the box "Block pop-ups" (If you wish to use the pop-up blocker, click Settings and add access.smu.edu and .smu.edu to the allowed websites")
27. Click the Advanced tab
28. Under the browsing section, check "disable script debugging"
29. Locate the Security section, and uncheck "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"
30. Check "Empty Temporary Internet File folder when browser is closed"
31. Click OK
32. Reboot your computer
33. Launch Internet Explorer and connect to Access.SMU

***Double check the time on your computer and verify that it is configured for the correct time zone and that the Windows Daylight Savings time patch was applied.  ***

How to configure Internet Explorer 7 for Access.SMU

1. Exit Internet Explorer
2. Click Start on your windows toolbar
3. Click Settings
4. Click Control Panel
5. Click Internet Options
6. On the General tab, locate the "Browsing history" section. 
7. Click Delete
8. Click Delete All
9. Click the Security tab
10. Click the "Trusted Sites" icon
11. Click the "Sites" button
12. Uncheck the box "Require server verifications (https:) for all sites in this zone"
13. Type "access.smu.edu" in the "add this web site to the zone" field
14. Click Add
15. Type "www.smu.edu" in the "add this web site to the zone" field
16. Click Add
17. Click Close
18. Click the Privacy tab
19. Click Advanced
20. Confirm that the word "accept" is selected under First-party cookies and Third-party cookies. 
21. If "accept" is not selected:
    a. click Override automatic cookie handling

22. Click OK
