About ITS
Our Mission
Information Technology Services (ITS) mission is to support and enhance the academic and administrative activities of Southern Methodist University.
To fulfill its mission, ITS provides computing, information processing, and communications resources to satisfy the needs of faculty, students, and staff, and offers comprehensive support services to help them use technology effectively and creatively.
ITS is dedicated to actively seeking input from its customers, understanding their needs and challenges, and working with them to implement appropriate solutions. In its leadership role, ITS is committed to creating and nurturing the vital information technology environment required for SMU to achieve its vision of excellence in education.
Our Location
BITS (Budgets and Information Technology Services) personnel are located in several building across campus. However, most of ITS is located on the 4th floor of the Laura Lee Blanton Student Services Building. The Blanton Building is located on Airline Road at SMU Boulevard. Academic Computing Services is located in the Fondren Library West Computing Center.

Leadership
Dr. Randall Powell serves as the AVP of Budgets and Information Technology Services. Reporting to Dr. Powell are Dr. JoAnn Lan, Executive Director of Academic Computing, and Joe Gargiulo, Executive Director of Administrative Computing.
Administrative Computing, led by Joe Gargiulo, is responsible for managing technology infrastructure and providing development and support for administrative systems. The following teams report directly to Joe Gargiulo: Systems, Telecommunications, Applications, Administrative Systems Training, and User Services.
The Systems group, under the management of Allen Hughes, is responsible for maintaining all ITS managed University servers, databases and technology accounts. This group includes Database administrators, Unix administrators, Server administrators, web infrastructure services and SMU ID Card technical support.
Jesse Miller leads the Telecommunications group. This group is responsible for maintaining the campus wired and wireless network (including upgrading and installing network equipment), monitoring network security, telephone and voice mail operations, and providing SMU directory assistance. Telecommunications provides long distance services for faculty, staff and students and is responsible for the campus wide cellular and cable services contracts. Jesse also serves on the SMU Emergency Management Taskforce.
User Services is responsible for providing documentation and desktop support to all users affiliated with the University. Under the leadership of Abby Kinney, the consultants provide hardware and software support to all faculty and staff computers with the exception of the Business and Engineering schools. They provide assistance with network connections in the residence halls, as well as assistance with the remote access configuration for all faculty, staff and students. The computing help desk is an integral part of the User Services group. The help desk provides telephone and face to face support for all computer questions and problems. The Help Desk is also the central resource where all computer, network and telephone problems can be reported.
The Software Applications team, led by Ron Lujan, consists of technical developers that offer programming and consulting for the SMU Financials, Access.SMU, SMU Budgets and Voyager (PONI) systems on campus. This team is responsible for maintaining, interfacing and customizing the database applications as well as working with Systems to implement new phases of Access.SMU and PONI.
The Administrative Systems Training team is led by Carrie Donaldson. They are responsible for providing employee training for SMU Budgets, SMU Financials and administrative Access.SMU.
