Medical Staff
Peter Davis, M.D. - Full-time Staff Physician and Medical Director
Dr. Davis attended medical school at the University of Kansas and then trained in internal medicine at the University of Alabama Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at UT Southwestern and Methodist Hospitals of Dallas. In addition to working at the Memorial Health Center, Dr. Davis serves as assistant clinical professor for the UTSW/Methodist Hospitals Sports Medicine Fellowship and Family Practice Programs. He has hospital affiliations at Methodist Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Davis is board certified in internal medicine and has a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine.
Nancy Merrill, M.D. - Full-time Staff Physician and Medical Director
Dr. Nancy Merrill is the Co-Medical Director and full time physician at the SMU Health Center. With 20 years of experience in college health, Dr. Merrill has been instrumental in increasing the quality of health care available to SMU students. Since she became medical director in 1997, substantial upgrades and updates have been made, including accreditation through a national healthcare accrediting organization and continuing medical education requirements for medical and nursing staff. Dr. Merrill is responsible for continuous quality improvement studies and quality assurance. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, completed her internship in Internal Medicine and board eligibility requirements in Emergency Medicine at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, and practiced as an Emergency Medicine physician prior to joining the medical staff at Tulane University Student Health Center. Dr. Merrill is married to an OB-GYN and is the mother of two college-age daughters.
Frances Crites, M.D. - Gynecology Consultant (Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings)
Before her medical school days, Dr. Crites was a registered nurse and certified nurse-midwife in the United States Air Force. She was a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and after completing her residency at Baylor College of Medicine, she opened her private practice at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas in 1991.

Methodist Health System Physicians - The Health Center has a unique affiliation with Methodist Health System physicians. Doctors from the Family Practice and Sports Medicine departments participate in patient care at the Health Center.

Louise Gunter, Physicians Assistant
Louise Gunter is a San Antonio native and 1991 SMU graduate. She accomplished her PA studies at UT Southwestern and has worked in Dallas in Family Practice and Internal Medicine for the past 8 years. Louise is married to her husband Kyle and they have two daughters, Nancy (3) and Claire (1). She enjoys playing tennis and cooking. She and her family are members of Providence Presbyterian Church.
