For Parents

The SMU Office of
Emergency Management, along with the SMU Police Dept, does its best to promote safety and protect campus. As
parents, you also can play a key role in your student’s well-being. Here are
some ways you can stay informed and involved in the safety of your student.
Campus Emergency Information
As an important part of the overall emergency communications plan, SMU has
developed a special parents information line designed specifically for your use.
In the event of an emergency on campus or in the Dallas area that could affect
the safety of SMU students, parents should call 214-SMU-PARENTS (214-768-7273)
for a recorded message and information updates.
Police Department
Most importantly, we urge parents with concerns about the safety of their
students to visit the Police Department website or call the department at
214-768-3333.
Telephone Tree
SMU parents are building a communication system with a critical purpose – to
serve as a primary information source for their fellow parents if a major
emergency occurs at the University.
