PLEASE NOTE:  Registration for Summer Youth workshops closes on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. for courses that begin the following Monday. Sign-up early, as spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis!

Extended Day Option (entering grades 3-7)

Extended Day is ideal for busy parents who need to bring their kids a little earlier in the morning and leave them a little later in the afternoon. The Extended Day option offers supervised activities and fun from 7:30 - 9 am and 4 - 5:30 pm and supervision through the lunch period, but the kids must be registered in classes for the entire day and bring their lunches. This option is only available during the 4 weeks listed below.  Cost $60/week.

Computer Animation, Web Design, Photoshop, and Digital Photography

3D Animation Beginners (entering grades 4-6)
Learn the technology behind movies such as The Incredibles and Bee Movie. Take a first step into the world of 3D animation with Animation Master - an easy to use animation program. Use Animation Master to create 3D models that you can build on for years to come. Internet access at home is required to download your creations.  Cost $189

3D Animation Beginners (entering grades 7-11)
Create computer-generated 3-D characters and worlds similar to those used in Ratatouille and The Enchanted. With the easy to use software program, Animation Master, design characters and animate them in varied scenes, backdrops and textures. This revolutionary patch-based technology makes it easy to create natural, fluid and flexible characters, scenery, and props. By the end of the week, you will have several animations to share with your friends and family. Internet access at home is required to download your creations.  Cost $189

3D Animation Advanced (entering grades 4-11)
In this class students focus on developing more complex animation skills utilizing multiple characters and action sequences. Advanced animators communicate stories using a variety of techniques including inverse kinematics, ray-tracing, image mapping, and modeling of complex organic and mechanical objects. The patch-based technology used in this class allows for natural and fluid-moving characters, scenery, and props. Internet access at home is required to download your creations. Prerequisite: 3D Animation: Beginners, or instructor approval.  Cost $189

Web-Page Design (entering grades 5-9) 
Design, layout, and build web pages using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, FrontPage, and HTML code. Using various options available for creating web pages, students are challenged to use creativity as they design a web site inserting appropriate graphics and text, using thematic backgrounds and colors as well as creating links to other pages and web sites. Students also learn steps needed to publish web creations in cyberspace.  Cost $189

Digital Photo Basics for the Shutterbug Set (entering grades 5-8)
Hands-on activities teach basic photography skills, including how to hold a camera and set controls, the effects of light and color on pictures, and how to download your shots onto a computer.  A final project will include a slide show of the students’ best works.  No experience necessary.  Bring a digital camera with charged batteries and a blank CD to each class.  Students can combine this class with Pixel Pics Basics in Adobe Photoshop offered in the afternoon for a full day of digital photography fun.  Cost: $189

Pixel Pics Basics in Adobe Photoshop (entering grades 5-8)
Pixters will journey through the basic geography of Photoshop applying endless techniques to photos created with the camera.  Bring a digital camera with charged batteries and a blank CD to each class.  For a full day of digital photography fun, students can combine this class with the Digital Photo Basics for the Shutterbug Set class that is offered in the morning.  Cost: $189

Gaming

Journeys in Game Design (entering grades 3-5)
Use Games Factory 2 software tools to manufacture arcade games, platform games, screen savers, and even more. Key game components are supplied - heroes, monsters, power-ups, and other objects you need, plus the sound and music. You will also be able to easily add custom items of your choice. Internet access at home is required to download your creations.  Cost $189

Checkmate! (entering grades 3-6)
Beginning and intermediate chess players are invited to this chess class that culminates in an all-day tournament.  Beginners focus on learning how the pieces move, chess notation, basic tactics, opening traps, and simple checkmates.  Intermediate students learn popular chess openings, positional strategy, endgame techniques, and more advanced tactics.  Cost $189

Never Winter Nights Beginners (entering grades 4-11)
Use the challenging tools provided in Never Winter Nights software as you construct a unique gaming module. Tools in this program allow you to create modules (modding) set in a medieval fantasy world. Even novice users can construct almost anything from a quiet, misty forest to a dripping cavern of foul evil or even a king's court. Monsters, items, set pieces and settings are available and user-friendly. T-rated with violence and blood "blocked." Home Internet access is required to download your creations.  Cost $189

Focus on more complicated game construction skills as you learn to sectionalize game components creating an extended, multilevel game. You will have the opportunity to incorporate animated video segments and individualized special effects including explosions, morphing and other features in your ultimate game design. Mini-BattleBots (entering grades 2-4)
Head-to-head non-stop Action! Using engineering principles, students design strategies to disable and defeat their opponents in battle. These mini-battlebot machines are based on the creative Rokenbok RC and building units.  Three channel vehicles are controlled within an environment of mass hysteria and chaos in a ROK’n Rumble Arena of pure fun. Keyboarding Skills

Keys to Keyboarding (entering grades 3-8) new course

Toy Builders I (entering kindergarten)  new course
Talk to your friend over a string! Find your way with a compass that you have made! Or, play music with kitchenware!  Inventor's Tool Box (grades 1-3)
Inventor’s Tool Box provides the tools and designs using Rokenbok elements to create unique machines and devices. Master Rokenbok builders will experiment with basic structures, simple machines and mechanisms to test forces and motion. Kids in the Kitchen (entering grades 5-8)
This workshop is a beginner's kid-friendly recipe for food, science, and fun.  Budding chefs will be guided through a collection of kid-tested concoctions that kids love. Students learn kitchen safety, science of ingredient combination, basic use of cooking utensils, as well as food presentation skills.  Class activities will include easy recipes for healthy snacks, entrees, side dishes, desserts and yummy smoothies.  The workshop will culminate in a sampler feast prepared by the young chefs.  Cost $199

UP, UP and AWAY! Outer Space - The Final Frontier (entering grades 6-8)
Explore the possibilities of extraterrestrial intelligence.  Investigate binary-coded messages, analyze light from different “stars,” make models of solar systems; and ultimately, create messages to send to outer space.  Use what you learn to interpret others’ messages, and design a planetary system where life could start.  Reenact Galileo’s work tracking Jupiter as you learn more about the Jupiter system.  Cost $189

Amusement Park Physics (entering grades 7-9) new course
Come learn physics principal behind all the rides we enjoy.  We will build classic amusement park rides including a roller coaster with clothoid loop, carousel, ferris wheel, pirate ship with a classic pendulum, scrambler, swing and boom rides, plus half pipe and inclined plane ramp systems with a circular loop. explore gearing options for rotating rides and a lot more.  Cost $189

CSI Forensics/Mystery Festival (entering grades 5-8)  
Experience “solving” a crime, learn how to take and lift fingerprints, examine hair and fiber evidence, bone analysis, and explore the basics of crime-lab chemistry. Hands-on crime-lab activities include diagramming a scene, performing method searches for evidence, and documenting the different scenarios that might have occurred.  Cost $189

Mathematics

Math Games Extravaganza (entering grades 1-3) new course
The countdown to math fun begins with a multitude of interactive activities including a variety of  board and computer games.  Students will play games utilizing dice, cards, and dominoes, as well as games like Math Matching, math Bingo, and Math baseball. The emphasis is on having fun while reviewing and improving basic math skills - addition, subtraction, measurements, telling time and temperature, and counting with money, as well as basic concepts of area, volume and weight.  Cost $189

Math in the World of Literature (entering grades 4-5) new course
Well-loved children's literature can be an effective tool to help children think mathematically in everyday situations. Journey through the world of mathematics experiencing games and diversions from across the globe and throughout time.  Throughout this journey students are challenged to rely on numbers, geometry, probability, and logic.  Discover the intriguing patterns of topology networks originating in Zaire.  Play game sticks, a version of a game played by native Californians.  Challenge your spatial skills by building geometric constructions that were first developed in England.  Try to solve our Lo-Shu puzzles - classic magic squares originating in China.  Come have fun and appreciate the beauty of mathematics as well as the people from the many different cultures that produced these games.  Cost $189

Venture outside the conventional methods of quilt making into an open-ended approach to fabric art. This workshop introduces piecing, raw edged applique and hand embellishing to add 3-D effects to treasured pieces of fabric art.
