Each of the two MBE programs––one that is a broad
traditional program and one that focuses on gifted students who are limited in
English proficiency--requires the completion of 36 credit hours of interdisciplinary
study and is designed––for
teachers of students who are limited in English proficiency.

of Music in Music Education (M.M.)
Participants in this program, which is designed for professionally employed educators
in public or private schools, have the option to concentrate their studies in
choral conducting, instrumental conducting, general music, or piano pedagogy.
This program is offered through SMU's Meadows School of the Arts.

Master Mathematics Teacher (MMT)
This 12-credit-hour program prepares teachers to earn the MMT certificate through
the State Board of Educator Certifications.
Master Reading Teacher (MRT)
This 12-credit-hour program prepares teachers to earn the MRT certificate through
the State Board of Educator Certifications.
Master Science Teacher (MST)
This 12-credit-hour program prepares teachers to earn the MST certificate through
the State Board of Educator Certifications.
Master Technology Teacher (MTT)
This 12-credit-hour courses program prepares teachers to earn the MTT certificate through
the State Board of Educator Certifications.
Bilingual Education Supplemental Certification
This 12-credit-hour program prepares teachers for the Texas
supplemental certification exam in bilingual education.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Supplemental Certification
This 12-credit-hour program prepares teachers for the English as a
Second Language (ESL) certification exam.
Gifted & Talented
Education Supplemental Certification
This 12-credit-hour program prepares teachers for the state certification exam
in gifted education. The Gifted Students Institute
offers a series of one- and two-day in-service seminars led by nationally
recognized experts in the field of gifted education.
Learning Therapy
A 22-hour professional certification program for individuals interested in
working with children or adults who have dyslexia or related language learning
disorders.
