 Spanish for the Workplace

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Spanish for the Workplace different from other Spanish programs?

  • Shorter periods of study compared to traditional classroom programs
  • Oral proficiency—conversations rather than conjugations
  • More “real world” and student-centered vocabulary
  • Small class sizes (limited to 15 students) allow for personal attention and lots of opportunity for in-class conversation
  • Innovative materials allow for extensive practice at home, the office, or in the car

Who should enroll in Spanish for the Workplace?

Spanish for the Workplace is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar in order to develop the speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented.  Spanish for the Workplace is designed as a three-part program, taught once per week over 3, 10-week trimesters (30 weeks total).  Significant practice outside of class is encouraged.

Can students begin with part 2 or part 3?  If I’ve had Spanish courses before, can I “place out” of part of the course?

Enrollment in the entire, 3-part series is highly recommended so that students have an opportunity to build vocabulary and practice speaking in Spanish.  However, exceptions are made on a case by case basis; please email the Office of Continuing Studies for details.
