W. Gibson, J.D.James Gibson received his Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University School of Law, his Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University, and his BBA from the University of Texas at Austin. An experienced attorney/mediator, Dr. Gibson has trained more than 700 state mediators and mediated more than 850 hours. He is the former chair of the State Bar of Texas Criminal Justice ADR Committee, the author of various publications on criminal mediation, and a national speaker on mediation and alternative dispute resolution. He is co-author of Capitalizing on Conflict (Davies-Black Publishing) which was released in May 2002. After release, Harvard Business School placed Capitalizing on Conflict on their Book Recommendation Library List and it won an award for one of the best business books of 2002. His textbook on criminal mediation within the Texas Court system has been adopted by the Texas Young Lawyers Association for training Texas attorneys and judges.
As a consultant, Dr. Gibson has worked with domestic and foreign corporations, cities, and municipalities. He specializes in highly complex interpersonal cases in both political and non-political settings. He is a board member and current secretary of the Texas Mediators Credentialing Association and the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable; former President of the Greater Houston Chapter of Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution (SPIDR), now the Association for Conflict Resolution; plus former board member of the Texas Association of Mediators and The College of Texas Mediators.
