The SMU Certificate Program in Financial Planning utilizes two publishers for course texts: National Underwriters and Kaplan Financial. Each SMU course requires a textbook from NU and a corresponding supplement from the 7-volume Kaplan Financial review series.
*The final course in the SMU Program, Financial Planning Strategies & Case Studies (Capstone) also requires two books, but both are from Kaplan Financial.
Required books for each SMU course are noted in the chart below. Click on hot links for Tools & Techniques and Kaplan to purchase textbooks.
ALL TEXTS ARE AVAILABLE SOLELY FROM THE PUBLISHERS. Courses are based on the most recent textbook editions offered by the publishers. Avoid holding obsolete textbooks by purchasing only the most recent textbook edition as needed for your current course. Please keep this in mind when purchasing packaged or bundled sets. Note: **As an SMU CPFP student, you will receive a discount on your "Tools & Techniques" textbooks. The coupon code can be found on the website or in your course confirmation.**
Books are not available at the SMU Bookstore.
To ensure delivery of texts before classes begin, SMU students are strongly encouraged to order their textbooks a minimum of 7 business days in advance of the start of each course.
