The Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) Program is an educational program sponsored by the The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) designed to help individuals develop a comprehensive understanding of employee benefit principles and concepts. Individuals who complete the CEBS program earn the professional designation Certified Employee Benefit Specialist, the most widely recognized and highly respected designation in the employee benefits field.
The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania co-sponsor the CEBS program. The IFEBP administers the program, while the Wharton School oversees the academic content and standards. Recently, the CEBS designation was divided into three interim designations, allowing students to gain recognition in certain areas of specialization, while pursuing the full CEBS. These interim designations are:
SMU Continuing and Professional Education provides candidates for the CEBS designations intensive study courses in select subject areas covered by the examinations. Courses are independent of one another, and may be taken in any order. There are no prerequisites, and no transcripts are required. Each course meets for three hours once a week. Courses are approximately seven weeks in length, and are offered on a quarterly basis (4 cycles per year). Students can expect to spend at least 3 hours a week, outside of class time, for each course.
