Dr. Short currently holds the position of Adjunct Professor at Southern Methodist University in the Department of Economics and at Texas Woman’s University in the School of Management. Her areas of specialization are principles of economics – microeconomics and macroeconomics, money and banking, and monetary economics. She is the author of a number of publications in leading academic and trade publications that focus on banking and financial markets, regulatory policy, and monetary economics. 

Prior to teaching Dr. Short was Vice President with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas where she retired in September 1997 after 18 years of service.  During her career at the Federal Reserve System she held a number of positions with her final assignment including direct management responsibility for the Bank’s Financial Industry Studies Department and general management responsibility for the Applications, Consumer Affairs, Quality Control, and Training Divisions of the Banking Supervision Department.  She also held the position of Director of Policy and Research at Texas Citizens for a Sound Economy, she was a Planning Officer at Southeast Banking Corporation in Miami, Florida, and Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Dr. Short holds an A.B. degree from Smith College and a Ph.D. degree in economics from the University of Virginia.  She completed executive management programs on negotiations at Harvard University School of Law, organizational change at Stanford University, and leadership skills at the Center for Creative Learning.
