The Linda and Mitch Hart eCenter at Southern Methodist University was established in December 2000 through a generous gift from the Hart family, supplemented with a major technology gift from Nortel Networks. It is the only university-wide, cross-disciplinary initiative focused on interactive network technologies at a major research university. 

The Hart eCenter at SMU is a focus for multi-disciplinary research, education, and innovation.

	Collaborative multi-disciplinary research on sponsored projects
	Innovative educational programs (both degree and professional) on multi-disciplinary issues delivered in multiple modes (on-campus, on-site, online, and remote)
	Application of the traditional strengths of the university to non-traditional, multi-disciplinary problems and opportunities.
