Background

Roy joined the department in December of 1998 following more than 19 years with Texas Instruments. Trained in Electronic Engineering Technology, he developed a broad range of skills while working in the Central Research Laboratories of T.I. including 12 years in the Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS) Lab of the Materials Characterization Group. Roy enjoys multimedia/graphic design and recently recieved recognition for his work on a video series called "Stories of Glory".

Roy supports day to day operations of the SEM, X-ray Diffraction and Electron Microprobe Labs as well as providing electronic maintenance support for other labs within the department.

Promoting use of department analytical facilities, Roy has stated "I would love to have the opportunity and resources to build a 'world class' materials characterization facility here at SMU and equip it with a broad spectrum of instrumentation that would support the research efforts of biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, as well as the earth sciences. Such a facility would be an excellent resource for training students and attracting faculty researchers."
