Dedman College's Evening Bachelor's Degree Program provides motivated
adults with a convenient and affordable opportunity to complete their
undergraduate education in the evening on a part-time basis. The program is designed specifically
for working professionals or homemaking adults who can integrate part-time evening study with
their other responsibilities and is ideal for students who have completed an
Associate's degree at a community college or for those resuming work on a degree
that might have been interrupted by personal, work, or family demands.
The program offers
outstanding faculty members, a flexible class schedule in the evenings, a reduced
tuition rate, and a convenient location. This innovative
program supports the University's mission to increase access to higher education
for the citizens of this region.
The two degree programs -- the Bachelor of Humanities and the
Bachelor of Social Sciences -- are interdisciplinary, exposing students
to a broad variety of academic disciplines
concentrated within either the Humanities (English, History, Philosophy,
Religion, and Art History) or the Social Sciences (Sociology,
Psychology, Anthropology, Economics and Political Science).
In an average fall or spring semester, evening students may choose from some fifty classes
offered by twenty academic departments. Most classes meet three hours one night a week,
although some meet for ninety minutes two nights a week.
Subject to evaluation and approval, up to 60 credit hours of previous
collegiate work may be transferred to SMU, and evening students may
enroll for up to nine hours per
semester without special approval. Many students can finish their degree within three
years. Both degrees follow the standards and requirements of SMU's
full-time degrees, and all courses are taught by regular SMU faculty
members. Thus, the evening program provides the same high quality of
education unique to SMU's traditional bachelor's programs.
All courses required for the degrees are offered Monday through
Thursday evenings. This schedule offers professionals as well as
homemakers convenience and flexibility. All evening courses are
available to Evening Bachelor's Degree students at a tuition rate which
is about one-third of the cost of full-time day study at SMU. The current tuition and fees for the
Evening Undergraduate Degree Program can be found on the
SMU Bursar's web site.
