Academic Departments

political science

The Department of Political Science offers an unusually broad curriculum covering the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia, with courses ranging from international politics and national security policy to constitutional law.

Four minor concentrations are available to students: political thought, political science, comparative and international politics, and American politics. In conjunction with the Department of Economics, we also offer the B.A. in public policy. From interactive introductory courses (limited to 35 students and all taught by faculty members) to advanced seminars, the quality of teaching is superior. Faculty are nationally acclaimed, and their research is equally significant. The department also houses the John G. Tower Center for Political Studies, which sponsors internships and undergraduate research fellowships and brings distinguished experts in international relations and politics to campus. The many world leaders who visit SMU through the Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series offer additional insights for political science students.
