Welcome! This site gives you a basic understanding of how to begin investigating and learning about your university career and will help you prepare to meet with your academic adviser.
The first-year pages are designed to direct you to the most pertinent information for you. Check out the First-Year Planning and read through the First-Year Policy pages carefully. Also, make sure you continue to explore the SMU website to gain as much knowledge as possible about your new community.
The advising website contains the following:
- Information you are held responsible for knowing. Students are individually responsible for knowing and complying with all academic policies and regulations which apply to them and their programs of study.
- Essential information with which you must be familiar to have a smooth first year at SMU, such as academic policies, course selection, and admission requirements for majors.
- Recommendations for first-year planning and beyond.
- The AARO checklist including your first-year profile, AP score evaluation, and placement exam information.
- Academic Planning Notes, a printable summary of basic information you should know.
