Advising Center
good advice
Welcome to the Dedman College Advising Center. Our center is designed to help both new and continuing students at Southern Methodist University with academic discoveries, decisions, and eventual directions.
This site cannot replace one on one contact with your academic adviser; however, it can help you with your academic planning in tandem with your academic adviser.
First-year students, we encourage you to explore the planning section of our site along with the informational section so you can know the options available to you as a student. Explore as much as you can about Southern Methodist University and write down your ideas or questions for reference when you meet your adviser.
Continuing students, use this site to refine your academic planning, as a resource for petitions and policies as well as a place, to check the links for course descriptions, as a starting point to take your academic career to the next level of excellence.
This website undergoes constant revision. It is an unofficial planning aid, not an official document. The University reserves the right to make corrections or changes as needed. The Advising website changes at least each academic year (which goes from September to the next September), so be aware that specific policies and information will change, at the least with each catalog year. For example, if you will be entering SMU as a first-year student in Fall 2005, this may be useful to you as a general guide, but specific policies and requirements will have changed.
