Pay Range: Salary commensurate with experience Position Information:
The Director of Planned Giving serves all the schools and units of the
University's fundraising operation as the chief strategist for planned gifts and
directs efforts to build the University's planned giving program, including both
current and deferred gifts.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of
planned giving donors of gifts of non-cash assets to the University;
- Providing training to major and principal gifts staff in the techniques
needed to identify and cultivate planned gifts and assisting staff with the
cultivation and solicitation of planned gifts;
- Leading the strategy for the marketing of planned gifts;
- Aligning with stakeholders across campus to develop and utilize
guidelines for the solicitation and acceptance of a broad range of gifts;
- Providing administrative support to finalize all types of planned gifts
and maintain any accounting, legal or tax compliance responsibilities
required by the gift.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with five years of professional work experience is required. A
graduate degree is preferred. Experience in planned giving with an established
track record of closing a broad range of planned gifts is essential.
Professional experience working in higher education or in a nonprofit as an
estate planning or trust attorney is preferred.
Candidates must demonstrate their knowledge of a wide range of planned giving
options, as well as the legal and tax implications of these gifts. Candidates
must understand the transactional implications of assets available for giving,
including but not limited to: real property issues, mineral interests and the
oil and gas industry, intellectual property, insurance and annuities, business
associations, trusts and estates. Candidates must understand the income, gift
and estate tax implications at both the federal and state level. Candidates must
demonstrate the ability to work in a complex institutional environment where
coordination, teamwork and communication are paramount. Strong interpersonal and
relationship-building skills are essential due to the broad range of
interactions with donors, prospects, their professional advisors, principal and
major gift staff members, deans and executive directors. Candidates must
demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Some travel
required.
