The Director of Development for Central University Libraries (CUL) is a
fundraising, portfolio-driven position with project management
responsibilities.Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serving as the chief development strategist and staff assistant to the dean of Central University Libraries regarding the management of major and prospective donors to CUL;
- Managing the portfolio of principal donors to CUL for The Second Century Campaign, which includes developing strategies and coordinating development-related activities within CUL as well as across campus;
- Overseeing the direction of all relevant proposals, next steps and forecasts;
- Serving as the primary point of contact for CUL on all development-related activities, including prospect research, personal visits, correspondence and events;
- Collaborating as appropriate with Development and External Affairs staff and CUL staff on major giving (national team), annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, donor relations and events, planned giving, marketing, public relations and related external affairs functions;
and
- Working with the dean's office and the senior CUL staff in setting the development agenda for the CUL Executive Board and related groups.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with five years of professional experience required; graduate
degree preferred. Major
gifts fundraising experience with a track record of soliciting and closing gifts
of $25,000 or greater is preferred.
Candidates must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills that have been developed in positions of increasing responsibility.
Candidates must possess experience in a complex institutional environment where coordination, teamwork and communication are paramount in importance.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills are essential.
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2007 (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook calendar) and database software is essential. Candidate must also possess the ability to learn new applications quickly.
Familiarity with Dallas and other major Texas cities is desirable. Experience working with volunteers and boards is preferred.
Previous work in libraries, publishing or other information field is a plus. Some travel required.
