"We need books by Anna Gavalda"
Your suggestion has been forwarded to the Central University Libraries Collection Development Librarian.
"Staff are GR8" Excellent Facility...Computer Lab outstanding."
Thanks so much!
"The Library has changed since my first year in 2000 - for the better! Thank you for bringing in more computers with hi-speed Internet! Can we do something about the funky tasting water?"
Well, you win some, you lose some! SMU plumbers has spent almost a full day this past year repairing water-chilling equipment in the library. Cold water always seems to taste better. Plumbers will be asked to return to check the quality and temperature of the water again.
"Is the fourth floor really haunted? What's the story behind this myth?"
SMU President Umphrey Lee died in his office on the third floor of the library that is now the DeGolyer Library. The library staff that currently occupies that office says that if there is a ghost, it is a positive influence.
"I have ADD, where is there a good place to study in this place for people like me?"
The Assistive Technology Center provides a quiet study room with computer workstations with special software for unique learning needs.
"Stay open past 2 am.
Fondren Library Center is planning for a complete renovation in the not too distant future. One of the goals of the renovation is to provide a part of the library that can remain open 24/7.
"It's cold"
"Library still way too cold!!! Explanations/Excuses not sufficient. We can put a man on the moon and SMU can cash our tuition checks but Admin can't get temp in library above subs-Arctic? Who's is getting the TXU kickbacks?"
"Why is the south half of the library kept so cold? Things are particularly bad on the first floor. The northern half of the library (science) doesn't seem as freezing."
"It's too cold in this building!!!! there should be water fountains around."
"It's 50 degrees outside & about 55 degrees on the 4th floor. Do I need thermal underwear in the library? I realize there are many people here, but please have temperature at 'reasonable' level. I've experienced this 5 - 10 times before writing. Thank you."
"It's freezing on the 4th floor! Turn off the AC, it's winter already!"
"In which toilet am I least likely to get frostbite? Here at Arctic U."
"Why is it so cold in here? And what are those silly round tables for? Do you expect giants?"
We are so sorry that you are so uncomfortable. The HVAC system is old and through the years, the room configurations have changed so that the airflow may be cooler in some areas of the building. Thermostat sensors placed through out the building control the library temperature. In order to preserve the books, the ambient temperature should not rise above 72 degrees. While some areas in the library may cooler or warmer than the target temperature (around air vents, next to windows), the temperature in the book stack cores consistently registers the optimal 69 - 72 degrees.
"Turn off the *** Damn Heat!!! It's not that cold outside!!! Ya'll are using a ton of precaution for an once of cure. We don't need the heat now."
Well, actually we receive more complaints from library users who are cold.
"I have the HIV"
Consult a Doctor at the SMU Health Center immediately.
"1 pm Ladies Room in foyer is a mess. Wet floor. Toiler paper on the floor. Please!
"I usually use the lobby restroom about 5 or 6 pm and it is usually messy. Today (Monday) I am here at 11 am and the floor is littered with paper and there is an awful odor. Why not just close it if it can't be kept clean."
We will forward this to ABS Janitorial Service and ask them (again) to increase their cleaning of this restroom.
"Is there any chance of getting dry erase boards for private study spaces throughout the library? Most important the LINK."
We will order new dry erase boards for those study rooms in Fondren and Science wings of the library that do not have them over the semester break. We hope to have them installed by the beginning of the Spring 2005 semester. Because the study rooms on the second level of the LINK were funded by donors to preserve a special décor, we will not add dry boards at this time.
"It's Thursday Nov. 11th @ about 9:00 pm. I just wanted to let you know that the 2 women @ the Reference/Info desk right now are FABULOUS! They are friendly informative, welcoming, etc. Please let them know to keep up the good work! It is much appreciated! P.S. Also, the temp tonight is good as well. No on can complain. .... in a good mood."
Thank you so much.
"Is it possible to return the tables and chairs that were originally in the Fondren Library Commons Area? The new tables give a more café feel than an educational setting. The previous setup was more comfortable as well as more conducive to studying to normal library activities. Thank you."
"Bring back the old rectangle tables to the Information Commons study area. The new round tables are annoying & impractical. They are not conducive to productive study at all."
Library staff will re-evaluate the furniture in the Information Commons area over the winter break. Staff had gathered input from SMU students who are members of the Student Advisory Council last year before selecting the present furniture. Look for possible changes next semester.
"I just want to let someone know how nice and wonderful the people are over in the microfilm department ... I haven't' used microfilm for years. The microfilm department staff was patient and courteous. I appreciate that type of service greatly. We live in a world that is so busy and customer service is terrible, but it is refreshing to know that it still exists in the microfilm department of Fondren.
Thank you so much for letting us know. Library staff are here to help, and we are glad you got the assistance and support you needed.
"I am so cold when I come to the library, maybe you could lower the temperature."
"What's on your mind?...currently nothing...because it has frozen! Could you please turn down the air conditioning."
"It's way too cold in here. It's freezing! I have to sit on the benches outside b/c its so cold. BRRRR."
We are so sorry that you are so uncomfortable. The HVAC system is old and through the years, the room configurations have changed so that the airflow may be cooler in some areas of the building.
"Can there be a fullstop/period to the 'renovation' answers? I am sure the renovation is a more than 5 years plan, the results of which none of students studying right now will get to see. We need action right now!!"
The West Stack study carrel areas are currently being repainted and refurbished. New study furniture has been ordered for the Information Commons area. We will continue to make improvements up until work begins on the new Fondren Library Center Complex.
"Could ya'll put WD 40 on the hinges to the doors in the study rooms. They are really loud. Thanks."
Thanks for letting us know about the squeaks. This has been fixed.
"Why'd they shut down the roof on the 4th floor????"
"Why can't we go outside onto the patio on the 4th floor?"
Safety and security concerns prevent us from being able to open the 4th floor patio.
"I came all the way from Irving in the rain. I don't know how to bring up the scanner application. The help I received over the phone, from students on the sidewalk outside (inquiring about directions) the front desk and the reference desk all were exceptional! Thank you."
You are very welcome - we are glad we were helpful to you.
"The library needs to be open 24 hours! Put our tuition money to work!"
Fondren Library Center will be open 24 hours for SMU students during fall Exams. The library will open at 9:00 am on Sunday morning, December 5th and not close until 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 11. Remember to bring your SMU ID for entry into the library after 10:00 pm.
"Dear Sir or Madam:
I recently began my graduate studies at SMU after having spent 4 wonderful years at A&M. It dawned on me that SMU has no drive through "drop boxes". Yes, there are 2 book drops located by the front doors, but that means that a student must park and thus spend money, perhaps even risk a parking ticket for a few seconds of dropping off heavy books.
I recommend that drop boxes be placed in 2 locations whereby students can simply pull to the side of the road and deposit their books. Texas A & M provides similar arrangements and it was most helpful. Parking at this institution is likewise a struggle. I appreciate your consideration."
This is an interesting idea. We will investigate the possibility. We realize that parking on the entire campus is a struggle.
"I think I have either a bad case of herpes or possible warts. What should I do?"
The SMU Health Center is open 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesdays they are open 8:30 am - 6:00 pm.
"I think we shouldn't pay for copies."
Some universities have print accounts for students to charge their photocopying against. SMU does not offer such accounts as part of their services. You can put value on your Pony Express stripe (either over the web from a credit card account or with cash at one of the copy card vending machines.
"This school sucks"
Could you be more specific?
"Let's shoot for a 24/7 library"
Fondren Library Center is planning for a complete renovation in the not too distant future. One of the goals of the renovation is to provide a part of the library that can remain open 24/7.
"Would it be possible to get some vending machines in the library?"
Again, one of the goals of the renovation is to provide a casual gathering place for coffee and refreshments.
"You should open 4th floor's balcony for cigarette area and cell phone area to limit distraction, and optimize study consistency."
Unlock the door on the 4th floor so when you receive phone calls or want to smoke a cigarette you can go outside on the balcony. Much more convenient."
Safety regulations prohibit us from opening the perimeter patio on the 4th floor. Renovation discussions with the architects have included possibilities of enclosing that area for safety while preserving the open-air features.
"Hello, I was wondering when you will get more copy machines around here! Also lower the prices you communists!"
Actually the cost of photocopies has come down this year from 15 cents to 10 cents. We will have signs around photocopiers stating where other machines are in the library.
"The lighting in this building throws off my concentration and hurts my head and eyes."
Because the Fondren Library Center has several different construction dates and styles, lighting is different in the West Stacks, Science Library and the Information Commons. We hope that one of these areas will be suitable for your needs.
Again, the future renovation of the Fondren Library Center will update and improve lighting throughout the building.
"I'll tell you what's on my mind. Two empty rolls of toilet paper in the ladies restroom. Floor littered with paper. Disgusting. Tuesday 9:30 pm."
ABS custodial staff are supposed to check the foyer restrooms each evening. If you notice that they need extra attention, please notify library staff at the main circulation desk.
"Need longer open hours even during summer. Weekends included. Classes are in session. Evening mostly and is a necessity."
During the regular summer sessions, Fondren Library Center is open Mondays through Thursdays 8:00 am until 10:00 pm. On weekends, the library is open Saturday and Sunday 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Only between class sessions, does the library close on weekends.
"May I suggest you add an online resource. www.janes.com. It is a pay website (membership required) with great information for international studies. Very specifically, it deals with global intelligence & risk assessment. Good for business, political science, social science & other majors."
We have started a trial subscription and informed professors in the political science department. We talked to a salesperson, who indicated that the entire package would be very expensive. He will be contacting us with pricing after we have had a chance to view the product. At both http://www.janes.com and http:/jtic.janes.com we have access until October 1 with the username: smu and the password: dallas.
"Suggestion: You need to get a copy of T.S. Stibling, A Life by Kenneth W. Vickers, U of Tenn Press. 2004."
It is unfortunate that we cannot purchase every book suggested to us. Please send us any information you have about books that you wish to see added to our collection. We are particularly receptive to adding books suggested by SMU professors or students that relate to courses being offered at SMU. Please send suggestions to Curt Holleman, Deputy Director, Central University Libraries, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX 75275-0135 (or Box 135 on campus). E-mail is also fine: chollema@mail.smu.edu.
"Thanks for having a "browsing" area on the main floor near the computers and reference books. It's a comfortable and interesting place to spend time between classes."
We are most pleased to hear that you are happy with our Browsing Collection. It is as encouraging to read your message of thanks, as it is to recognize the usage that the collection receives daily.
"Y'all need new computers! And even if this cannot happen a prplacement of the hard drive that can play dvds. It is also extremely cold in here. An adjustment needs to be made in this area as well "Copies should not cost money!" "Turn down the air conditioning, please !!!! It is always freezing - why?" "Why is it that certain Library staff must talk loud and bang around and holler out to one another while a group of students is right near them studying? We're trying to learn! Please be quiet!" "The library seriously needs valet! Thanks !!" "Hair, paper towels, toilet paper, water footprints all over the lobby ladies room. Don't night students deserve a clean rest room?" There is just one fountain in the library where we can get cold water (the one near periodicals) Is it possible to get it on every floor in the library? Two, I wanted to know if the water is filtered... "Is there any way that students from other institutions can stay in the library past 10:00 pm if they register with the front desk or something? I'm a DTS student and our library is closed after 6 pm Saturday & all day on Sunday. Places to get resources & study are limited. Our library also closes @ 11 pm during the week. Please contact me if there is any way that the new Policy would be changed. Thank you so much. "Stop listening to your portable CD player. You think you can only hear it, but your wrong! Turn it off!"
"We need more study rooms!!" "The hours of this library are ridiculous! Some people may not have printers @ home and have papers to turn in @ 8 a.m. - What are we supposed to do??? Teachers could care less - you NEED TO FIX THIS! ASAP (like by tomorrow :))" Schools that have fewer library hours than us include: Texas A&M library annex has the same number of hours as we do. 116. "The purpose of the West and East stacks is to study & avoid others who are annoying and loud. Maybe if you decide to go up there to talk on your cell phone, maybe you should go somewhere else. Be a little considerate. Unless your dog is dead no one cares trust me. By the way Fred, I don't care much with your conversation while I'm studying either." "5 pm Thursday the lobby ladies restroom was clean for a while - and thanks for getting the hot water turned on. But there's no toilet paper now - 2 empty rolls and the floor is dirty - footprints and hair - ugh!"
" Why do we need to sign in when we go to the computing lab in Fondren East part."? "I was @ library & studying w/ my brother. @ 10:00 we were told he could not be with me here because he doesn't attend the university. If this is the policy, it sucks that we can't bring friends here & if security officer is misinformed, she needs to be told what the policy is." "I have a problem with the security guards kicking out "non-students" at 10:30 check-time. I am a dental student at Baylor College of Dentistry, 5 minutes down the road. I realize the library is designated for SMU students only, but I would think you would take a few slight exceptions. Thanks! (As you can see, I made it back in here...try to figure it out -and yes, the security guard did check on me! "How about maybe, just maybe, everything is exactly the way that it's suppose to be" "I want more sex. What should I do?" "Do something about the odor in the Ladies Rest Room in the lobby. It stinks - also the sink is stopped up. This is not the first time. Also clean it more often. There is frequently toilet paper on the floor." "This is mostly to say "thanks" for" 1) Providing a "suggestion box" 2) Providing libraries that are not only useful for study and research, but clean scenic and comfortable 3) Helpful and knowledgeable staff." "It has been really difficult to break change especially at night." "The girl that works close to the reading area is always talking on the phone, and her voice is loud. She always bothers me when I am studying. Thanks. "Why is it so cold in here. And it smells funny too... like old books... Your guys need to make it easier to find stuff. It's hard! Call me stupid, but I can never find what I'm looking for...And keep the damn freshmen from humping in the stacks! It makes it hard to concentrate." "A much better [suggestion] box than the thing with a head on it"
"Can we please get some bean bags so we can pass out. Thank You." "I don't have any complaints, just a somewhat kudo. The person who responds to these comments is pretty funny. He/she has responded w/ a sense of humor and it seems that she/he wants to help the students. Thank-you whoever you (are). Keep up the good work." "The people at the main desk make too much noise & it comes to the 2nd floor. Shut up!" "The second floor LINK could use more desks and tables. For it is the most enjoyable atmosphere to study in." "Free massages in the library? Cool" " The library should invest in a quality stapler for the printer area. The current staplers have difficulty with anything over the range of 15 - 20 pages." "It is so cruel to send away non-SMU Students from the library. It is not right." "Our library hours are terrible. We pay so much for tuition here, yet the public schools have better hours in their libraries. So please do something about the library hours. Students study late into the night & early in the mornings before exams." "Library should be open 24 hours during all dead (reading) days - should not close on Thurs or Sat @ 2. Lots of students study because we have finals. "I came to do research and that part was great. I needed some change to pay for the meter outside. I am a visitor but you guys say you did not have change. It would have been helpful if you did. A lady told me that this was a library and you had no money but what about fines and things."
Thanks so much for your suggestion. The Academic Computing Labs at the back of the Information Commons area provide the capability to read DVDs at this time. We have a Reference team evaluating possible future provision of DVD capabilities on public computers in other areas of the Information Commons. We appreciate your suggestion and will forward it to that team.
A major focus during the past year was to upgrade public computers and move them to the Windows XP operating system. We receive some technology upgrade funds from the University each year which enable us to upgrade annually a percentage of the approximately 400 PCs that the Central University Libraries support. Grant funding opportunities are also used to obtain additional funds for upgrades whenever possible. The current level of University technology upgrade funding is not enough to upgrade all computers during the same year. At the current level of funding there will be a mixture of new computers and those over three years old. We continue to review all PCs as we make decisions on which are the top priorities to upgrade within the funding that we have available and public PCs are always a priority.
We wish our budget would allow us to subsidize all copying and printing for our library users, but the fact is, copying and printing does cost money. Despite the fact that more and more information sources are available electronically, many users still require hard copy to take away for their research needs. The library budget has to cover increasing costs for print and electronic resources (many paid on an annual basis), computers, printers, paper, toner, equipment maintenance, etc. Our printing charge is assessed so that we can continue providing this necessary service without defraying other areas of an already stretched budget.
"Is there any way you could increase the temperature inside the library. It's really cold inside."
We are sorry that you are not comfortable. The library temperature is controlled by thermostat sensors through out the building. In order to preserve the books, the ambient temperature should not rise above 72 degrees. While some areas in the library may cooler or warmer than the target temperature (around air vents, next to windows), the temperature in the book stack cores consistently register the optimal 69 - 72 degrees.
Oops, "We have talked to staff about this problem and they promise to adjust the noise level downward."
Well, we never thought about it until now. But would you really trust library staff to drive/park your car?
Seriously, you have a number of parking options near the library. Students with a commuter parking sticker can park in the Commuter Lot on Ownby Drive directly across from the Fondren Library Center. Students with commuter stickers may also park in the Airline Garage which is approximately one block north the library. The pedestrian walkway that connects the Garage and the Library is well lighted at night. Visitor parking is available in the metered spaces on Ownby Drive adjacent to the library. Parking is limited to two hours, the rates are: 6 minutes/5 cents, 12 minutes/10 cents, 30 minutes/25 cents. There is long-term visitor parking in the University Lot adjacent to the Airline Line garage. The rates are $1.00 an hour or pay $5.00 and park all day. There is some parking on the streets surrounding the library but these spaces fill up early in the day. Space on the street is often available in the early evening as well.
Fondren has asked the custodial staff to check this restroom in the late afternoon or early evening to try to improve the condition of the restroom for evening students. Since the library lobby is a convenient pass through for students, faculty and staff, the restrooms are heavily used.
Library staff took an inventory of all library water fountains and noted if there was sufficient water pressure and if the water temperature was cold. This inventory has been sent to SMU Physical Plant with a work order to please work on those water fountains that are not functioning properly.
Physical plant staff found that there was no electrical power to the water refrigeration system for the fountains, so electricians will be working on that problem.
SMU Physical Plant assures us that the water is filtered.
Fondren Library Center welcomes students from other universities and colleges as well as the general public with generous service hours during the week and on the weekends. However because of reduced library staff and security concerns, we will continue to restrict occupancy after 10:00 pm. You should communicate your needs to the DTS library staff and perhaps they can increase their service hours.
I am not sure if you are referring to library staff listening to their portable CD players. It is listed in the public services student handbook and the training materials of computer lab assistants that they are not supposed to listen to walkmans or CD players at work. If you are referring to other library users, FLC staff can ask them to turn down the volume if you contact us.
There are four study rooms on the second floor of Fondren Library East, five study rooms on the second floor of the central entrance area and two study rooms on the second floor of the Science Library. These study rooms can be reserved by SMU students for two-hour segments.
Twenty individual study rooms are available on the 2nd floor of the Science Library. These rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis to SMU Graduate and Doctoral students. When there is a waiting list, first priority will be given to students working on dissertations and theses.
As space is reallocated within Fondren Library Center, we always consider the possibility of creating more study rooms. When the library is fully renovated, we intend to devote more space to group study rooms.
"As much as I study here, I only wished it would be open later. I really don't understand why the university library isn't open 24/7. This is after all a university... I'm sure it could be done."
During regular semesters, Fondren Library Center is open 116 hours. Schools that have more library hours than us include:
Peer pressure may be the most effective way to control inconsiderate cell phone users. Plus, who would want to have their private conversations overheard by a room full of quiet students? By the way, we do hope that Fred's dog did not die!
We have continued to ask building cleaning services to give extra care to the FLC entrance ladies room. By 5:00 p.m. on a Friday afternoon, after a busy week, it may be understandable that the restroom is not in pristine condition. The Fondren Library Center provides a cut through from the east side of campus to the west side through the library. Many people other than library users may stop to use our facilities. However, library staff will continue to routinely check the condition of the restroom and communicate to cleaning services if additional work needs to be done.
1. Due to the network access that is allowed on these pc's the need for security is very necessary. Logging in is the only way to identify and track who is using a specific pc.
2. These pc's have licensed software on them that is for SMU use only. These machines will always require a valid SMU ID to be used though the procedure may change.
3. While students do have to pay for printing, we do not require the Classes in each lab to pay, therefore there is a need to differentiate between the two.
Fondren Library Center is reserved for SMU student, faculty and staff who have valid SMU ID cards after 10:00 pm. Friends and Family can accompany you in the library from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm but because of reduced library staff and security concerns, we restrict occupancy after 10:00 pm.
Making a "few slight exceptions" is hard to do and not really fair to those who are courteous to abide by our rules for visitors and who are not sneaky about making it back into the library after the guard has asked you to finish your work.
Well, thank you for the compliment (maybe) but we know there are always things we could improve on.
The romance novels are on the third floor of Fondren East.
The drain in the floor of the Ladies' Restroom has a U shaped trap that should always have water in the curve to seal off any sewer odors. Should the water (and this water does not come from the commode) evaporate or otherwise not be in the curve, then unpleasant odors may be present. SMU Plumbers came out to check and the trap was sealed with the necessary water. They did recommend that the janitors pour a disinfectant into the drain once a month just to further deodorize the drain. We will communicate that to the janitors. Also, at the time the plumbers were here in the library, the sink was not stopped up.
You're most welcome.
There are 2 change machines located in the Fondren Library Center. One is located in the Science Library in the main floor copy room and the machine will accept $1 and $5 dollar bills (note that it will not accept the "new" $5 bill). The other change machine is located next to the reference desk in Fondren East Library and will accept $1 bills only. If you have a larger bill, the Circulation desk may be able to break it into smaller bills depending on the amount of petty cash funds available at the time. After regular staff hours when only student workers are in the department, change would not be available. Regular staff hours are: 1pm-9: 30pm on Sunday, 8am-10pm Monday-Thursday, 8am-5pm on Friday, and 9am-5pm on Saturday.
While we want to assist users with change requests as much as possible, it's recommended that you try to make arrangements ahead of time to break any large bills before coming to the library, in order to avoid these kinds of problems later.
I'm assuming that you are referring to a student worker in the reference/information commons area. They are told in their training not to take personal telephone calls while on duty here in the library. We may not have made it clear that this also includes personal cell phones. We will remind out student workers that their telephone conversations are not appropriate while on duty and disturb the work of our library users.
My, my, where to start. Well there are old books in the Fondren Library Center. And one reason why the temperature settings are more towards the cooler side is to keep heat and humidity from molding and destroying the books even further.
Fondren Library Center has staff at the reference, periodicals and circulation desks every hour the library is open. They will be more than glad to help you find what you are looking for.
Such disruptive behavior of any level student would certainly be irritating to library users who are trying to study or do research. Please notify library staff at the reference, periodicals or circulation desk or the Fondren Library Center Security Officer. (And by all means don't tell such offenders about the romance novels on the third floor!)
Changes in the suggestion box motif were brought about by interested library users such as you taking the time to share your concerns and thoughts.
"We need bean bags so we can take a little nap."
Bean bag seating sounds comfortable. But we don't want to make you so comfortable that you fall asleep and don't get your studying done.
Thank you. But don't let it get out that librarians have a sense of humor!
The first floor entry area of Fondren Library Center is a high traffic area that houses busy circulation and reserve services. Unfortunately, that noise also moves up through the Selecman Tower opening into the second floor. Because of these two factors, we are afraid the areas will never be as quiet as the rest of the library. Quiet study areas are located in Fondren on the second and fourth east floors and in study rooms throughout the Science and Fondren Libraries.
I'm glad that you find the second floor LINK an enjoyable place to study. Since it is a connection between the second floors of the Science and Fondren libraries, we want to keep enough room between study desks for library users to walk through.
The SMU Program Council provided these free massages to students during reading days before exams. It was a thoughtful service.
A high capacity electric stapler has been ordered. We try to keep up with the needs of our patrons, and count on these suggestions to let us know exactly what is needed. We are currently looking into a higher capacity stapler and hope to find one that will suit the needs of our patrons.
For over five years, Fondren Library and then Fondren Library Center has had restricted access after 10:00 pm. Use of the library is reserved for SMU users during these restricted access times. In order to enter the library, SMU users must swipe their SMU ID card through the card reader on either side of the main entrance.
Fondren Library Center offers generous service hours to non SMU and community users. In return for this generous service, we ask that non SMU users schedule their library work between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, Monday through Sunday. These hours are far more generous than those of public libraries.
After 10:00 pm, the Fondren Library Center is staffed solely with student workers. For service and security reasons, we can only offer study hall and collection access to our primary users during this time.
The Downtown library of the Dallas Public Library system, is open a total of 68 hours a week. Fondren Library Center is open to SMU students, faculty and staff 116 hours a week during regular semesters.
The library is open the entire night before each day of finals. Past experience, however, has indicated that usage of the library was insufficient to justify the cost of staying open a full 24 hours on certain nights when no final was scheduled the following day.
We regret the inconvenience to the students who would like the library to be open more nights during finals. We wish that we could accommodate that desire.
I am sorry that you were given incorrect information. We do have change which we use for our overdue fine payments. However, depending on how much petty cash we have at the time will determine if we can give change or not. Large bills can sometime be a problem while smaller bills we can usually change.
There is also a change machine for 5$ and 1$ bills located next to the reference desk in Fondren Library East. It is preferred that you use our change machine for meter money if at all possible.
