The selections for this research guide should be of use to every student of sociology. This short list should be used only as a starting point. If you are looking for articles on cultural, economic, political, or social change from sources outside the mainstream, this is the database to search. America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts SMU Only
History provides a context for understanding political issues and societal norms. If you're looking for U.S. or Canadian topics and events, search America: History and Life. For the rest of world, use Historical Abstracts. You will find these databases useful for many of your courses, including: Social Problems; Chicanos of the Southwest; The Administration of Justice; and Political Sociology.

Encyclopedia of European Social History from 1350 to 2000HN 373 .E63 2001
While Euro-centric, this six-volume encyclopedia will help every student of sociology whether or not you are interested in Europe. Scholarly written, signed entries with extensive bibliographies will help you find the major works regarding your research. Entries include a list of references that will lead you to key, critical sources on your topic.

JSTOR SMU Only
JSTOR provides full-text, historical access to some of the most important journals in sociology, including: American Sociological Review , Contemporary Sociology, European Sociological Review, Gender and Society, Journal of Black Studies, Journal of Health and Social Behavior Journal of Marriage and the Family, Public Opinion Quarterly, Sociometry, and Theory and Society.

Retrospective database chronicling global public policy and social issues from 1915-1976. Most of these journals are indexed in Academic Search Complete or Academic OneFile, if you are looking for more recent information.
