Research Guide: Advertising

Redbooks, a.k.a. Lexis Nexis Advertising Red Books SMU ONLY
Find information about advertisers and agencies. This database covers U.S. and international advertisers who each spend more than $200,000 annually on advertising. Information on advertisers includes expenditures by media, current agency, sales, contact information, brand names, competitors and more. Agency information includes accounts represented, specializations, billings, contact information, and more.

Global Market Information SMU ONLY
GMID contains over a million demographic, economic and marketing statistics for 205 countries worldwide. The database also contains 6-year historic market size data for more than 330 consumer products in 52 countries, plus 5-year forecasts. The "menu search" area in the middle of the screen is useful for finding very specific statistics, but the "browse reports" menu near the top of the screen is the easiest way to approach the contents of this database.

Hoover's SMU ONLY
Find information on companies, including their history, performance, products, subsidiaries, and competitors. Also includes trends, industry context, and competitive landscape charts.

ABI/INFORM SMU ONLY
Find business news, including news on advertising campaigns, consumer behavior, and market competition. ABI also carries some professional and academic advertising journals. To search all available content, make sure that all three ABI databases (Dateline, Global, Trade and Industry) are checked on the ProQuest entry page, and uncheck any non-ABI databases.

Business Source Complete SMU ONLY
Find professional and academic articles on advertising, as well as extensive business news. The contents of this database overlap somewhat with the contents of ABI/INFORM, but Business Source Complete carries more professional and academic advertising journals. BSC also provides non-journal content such as reports, case studies, company profiles, and more. BSC replaces and improves upon Business Source Premier.
