The Map Library still has some maps available from their annual map giveaway!!! The maps you may take for free are placed on the round table outside the map library doors. Great for decorating and gift wrap.

We are excited to announce that Alycen Cuellar has accepted the position of Director of the Friends of the SMU Libraries/Colophon.  She will begin on Monday, July 26 and will temporarily be located in the CUL Library Office, Room 300, Fondren Library East while her permanent office in Room 320 is being completed

Alycen brings to SMU and the Friends of the Libraries community a background rich in development, special events, marketing and public relations.  As a long time resident of Dallas, she is well known as a successful businesswoman in her work with The Dallas Museum of Art, The Rachofsky House, Christie's Auction House and most recently in her own art consulting and design business.  She has also served as adjunct faculty teaching Art Appreciation with the Dallas County Community College District.

Being so involved with the Dallas community Alycen personally knows and has worked with many of the members of the Friends of the SMU Libraries community so she will feel right at home beginning her work as Director of the Friends.

Please welcome Alycen to SMU and the Central University Libraries.

Bill Dworaczyk's  team's entry for the "24 Hour Video Race of Dallas" short film competition won the audience award. Rob co-wrote, directed and edited this short.

Bill's entry for the "EDOC Eight Day Video Race" competition won Honorable Mention. Ron wrote and edited this short.

This is a new section in which a CUL staff member will be featured each month.  The purpose is to get to know each other a little better.  Please feel free to send me the profiles of your newest staff members (tvangoet@mail.smu.edu) so that we can introduce them to the rest of CUL. FISH STORY FROM WICHITA EAGLE NEWSPAPER  (May 30, 2004)

This was a pretty interesting story from The Sunday Wichita Eagle Newspaper a couple of weeks ago. Was in a housing subdivision around 119th st. South and Maple. Anyhow a resident in the area saw a ball bouncing around kind of strange like in the subdivision's pond and when he went to investigate, it was a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a child's basketball which became stuck in its mouth. The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive but unable to because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface. The resident tried numerous times to get the ball out but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflate the ball and release the catfish.
